Inflation Pressures in 2018?

One of the reasons for the pickup in market volatility over the recent past has been due to a fear that inflationary pressures are building in the economy. With the unemployment rate at a 17-year low and wages rising faster than anticipated, some investors have begun to worry that inflation is about to spike. As noted in the chart, inflation expectations have been climbing, but they are not much higher than the Fed’s 2% target.
